3:15 pm – The Rise of Geek Culture
Earlier this year, Imgur commissioned and released an in-depth national study about the “Rise of Geek Culture”, bringing to life an influential, affluent group that is really hard to reach and influence. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the findings we’ll share as we take you through the study:
• Geek culture is going mainstream, and being a geek means something much more positive than it has in the past.
• 1 out of 4 millennials identify as being hardcore “geeks,” and they’re very different from their non-geek counterparts.
• Geeks are some of the most influential cultural trendsetters, with enormous purchasing power, but they’re one of the hardest segments for marketers to reach.Steve Patrizi

I am a data scientist with very broad experience in both industry and research. My path towards becoming a director of data science groups was a long one. In the early 1990s I finished a doctorate in mathematics. After teaching for a few years I moved into industry and specialized in developing software that brought research-based algorithms into industry. In the process of my software work I met a few brilliant statisticians and became fascinated by the power of using probability models to explore the world. I eventually (after ten years) I decided to go back to graduate school and work on a Ph.D. in statistics. After finishing the stats doctorate, I decided to dive back into industry and landed at PopCap Games in Seattle where I founded PopCap’s analytics team. From PopCap I came to EA where I now lead the CMO/Data Science team.
